New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…

2020 was probably one of the most important years in the history of MIUI. With the release of MIUI 12[1], the Android world actually began to take Xiaomi’s software seriously.

After all, the update was one of the biggest and most memorable ever. It addressed many of the shortcomings with MIUI 10/MIUI 11 and polished up the skin to near perfection.

You also got cool new animations and sophisticated UI elements making use of fancy stuff like Gaussian blurring. It was these numerous tweaks that perhaps also led to severe performance issues, especially noticeable on budget devices.

However, the company continued to keep its focus on feature additions and gave little to no priority to optimization. This led to the emergence of an extremely buggy and unstable MIUI 12.

With MIUI 12.5, things took a turn for the better, as it was promised that Xiaomi will be prioritizing optimization. The update has now made it to most of the eligible devices but its performance boost has been minimal.

But fast forward to now and Xiaomi seems hell-bent on resolving the various kinks and performance shortcomings still plaguing MIUI 12.5.

MIUI 12.5 Enhanced Edition was announced on August 10 and has once again been promised to be a performance-oriented update. It delivers no new features over MIUI 12.5 but should make phones run better.

The listed changelog includes several under-the-hood improvements such as smart algorithms to dynamically allocate system resources, RAM optimization, and core system improvements:

1. Swift performance: More life between charges.

2. Focused algorithms: Our new algorithms will dynamically allocate system resources based on specific scenes, ensuring a smooth experience on all models.

3. Atomized memory: Ultra-fine memory management mechanism will make RAM usage more efficient.

4. Liquid storage: New sensitive storage mechanisms will keep your system vibrant and responsive as time goes by.

5. Smart balance: Core system improvements allow your device to make the best of the flagship hardware specs.
